Blowing cut grass into the
street is prohibited. Depositing twigs, branches or other debris onto
City streets is prohibited. (Littering-Section 105.06 of the City
Code.)
This debris causes drain sewers to become plugged and
further causes street flooding during heavy rainfall. If citizens do
not cooperate, citations may be issued.

In the past year West Central Iowa Rural Water
has run rural water lines around the area to supply water to 200 rural
water users. The plastic piping has been installed as far east as the
Wall Lake area and already extends for several miles north of Odebolt.
Two Odebolt-Arthur horticulture classes, Vance and
Brian Lundell, and members of the Odebolt Betterment Committee
recognized Earth Day by planting concolored firs and ninebarks
on Lundell Plastics Corp. property. This part of the Odebolt
Betterment Committee's plan to enhance the corridors into town.
Six groups of O-A Middle School students, their
science instructor, room aides and members of Tuesday Club cleaned up
city park on Earth Day, April 22. Tuesday Club sponsored the
activity and provided treats for the workers. Grade school students
and their teachers spruced up the school grounds and along Odebolt
Creek Walk during the week.
Pastor and Karen Buelow of Trinity Lutheran Church
in Odebolt were honored at a retirement reception on April 30. The
Buelows served the church for 33 years.
Thirty-eight guests attended the ONRC volunteer
brunch and were entertained by Deb from Prairie Pedlar. All had a
great time.
ONRC residents were entertained recently by
Janis Smith Reinschmidt playing a musical saw.
OBITUARY
LARRY ANDERSON
Memorial services for Larry Anderson were held at 10:30
a.m., Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron,
IA, with the Rev. Trish Underberg officiating. Recorded musical
selections included “Angels In Waiting”, “Bridge Over Troubled Water”,
“Where The River Flows”, “Take My Hand Precious Lord”, “He Ain’t
Heavy, He’s My Brother”, “Peace In The Valley”, “I Bid You Goodnight”,
“Oh! Shenandoah”, “The Soft Goodbye” and “Funeral Bagpipes”. Inurnment
was at the Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, IA. Following the inurnment all were
invited to return to the church for a luncheon prepared and served by
the Bethel Lutheran Women’s Society. The
Pfannebecker Funeral Home, Denison, IA was in charge of
arrangements.
Larry W. Anderson was born August 21, 1945 in Storm
Lake, Buena Vista County, IA, the son of Wayne B. and Helen Shirley
Boerner Anderson. He attended Kiron Public Schools in Kiron, Crawford
County, IA, where he was active in band and acting in plays. Upon
consolidation of schools, he attended Odebolt High School in Odebolt,
Sac County, IA.
In younger years he attended the Kiron Evangelical Free Church and
later was baptized and joined the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.
Larry had various types of employment in his life,
starting with a paper route for the Sioux City Journal as a very young
boy. Later, he worked for Larson Hardware and Fred’s (Kollbaum)
Plumbing and Heating in Kiron. After this he was engaged in working
for Super Valu in Ida Grove and Denison, IA. Following that he was
employed by Moore Brothers who owned a few stores in this area of Iowa
and worked in various capacities amongst the stores.
Larry did a lot of traveling of the United States after
his employment at Moore Brothers, living and working in many places,
doing all manner of things. Some were namely, Louisiana, New Mexico
and Washington.
In the 1970’s, he returned to Iowa and had his own
business, Larry’s Upholstery in Boyer, Crawford County, IA. Following
that he moved to Minnesota, where he worked in the computer
programming business when it was in its beginning stages using punch
cards. He also worked in a furniture factory and in small convenience
stores.
Larry was always interested in everything and educated
and trained himself to do almost any kind of activity. Some the
special things were reading, cooking, baking, gardening, carpentry and
crafting.
In 1990, he returned to Boyer, IA and lived on the family farm.
Larry died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the Indian Hills
Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center in Sioux City, IA. At the time
of his death he had been blessed with 63 years, 7 months and 21 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant
sister, Eileen, and his son, James Hoops.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda (Marc) Schwanz of
Holstein, IA, one sister, Sharyl (Don) Mildenstein of Denison, IA, one
brother, Garry (Peggy) Anderson of Sierra Vista, AZ, four
grandchildren, one great grandson, eight nephews and nieces, 21 great
nephews and nieces and one great great niece.

EVENTS PLANNED FOR MEMORIAL DAY
Odebolt's Memorial Day Service will be on May 25th at 10 AM. Pastor
Albert Buelow will be giving the address. He is officially retiring on
April 30th at Trinity Lutheran Church but will be returning to
participate in the Memorial Day Service.
Also the Odebolt Community Center is having a fund raiser
immediately after the Memorial Day Service. They will be grilling pork
& beef burgers and serving potato salad and bars. It will be free will
donation.

SPRING SPECTACULAR - OPEN HOUSE - May 2nd at
Prairie Pedlar The Prairie Pedlar will officially welcome Spring with their
annual Spring Open House on Saturday, May 2nd. Come and see
a very artful array of hanging baskets, one-of-a-kind
containers and collections of herbs, annual flowers and hard
to find perennials that will make your yard the envy of the
neighborhood.
For the third year in a row, a nice variety of
ornamental shrubs and specialty trees will also be offered.
Look for a collection of roses, hydrangeas, and flowering
standards. Even if your thumb isn¹t green, you will want to
come and see the new look in the gift shop(s).
The
Prairie Pedlar is introducing a new collection of fabulous
statuary and garden ornaments for outdoors. A menagerie of
containers in all shapes, sizes and compositions are also a

Coordinator has been busy meeting with the Odebolt-Arthur Clover
Kids group for the last six months after school. They have been
learning about the 4-H program and have been making projects that will
be on display in the Clover Kids booth at the Sac County Fair.
The annual Odebolt Easter Egg Hunt was held at
ONRC on April 11, sponsored by Wheeler Lodge #398 of Arthur, Rainbow
Assembly and Arthur Eastern Star. There were 2100 eggs hidden.
Following the hunt the children emptied their eggs and were invited to
have juice and cookies with the residents at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab
Center.
Odebolt Legion Auxiliary Seeks Members-- The
American Legion Auxiliary is the largest patriotic women's service
organization in the world. It supports the American Legion and its
programs for veterans, young people and community. It promotes the
understanding of patriotism and responsibility of citizenship. A woman
who is eligible for membership can be a mother, wife, daughter,
sister, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, or grandmother of members
of the Legion or deceased veterans. Please contact Bev Einspahr if you
are interested. We welcome new members.
First State Bank has new Chairman. On
April 8 the First State Bank Board of Directors announced that
longtime board member Linda Boerner advanced from her role as Vice
Chairman and is now Chairman of the Board. After holding the position
of Chairman for more than 20 years, Boerner's father, Richard Bogue
has chosen to step down. Under Bogues' leadership, the bank has
successfully grown and today operates in five locations and holds $110
million in total assets. (The FSB restored Odebolt's landmark 1915
bank building for its Odebolt office.

Jamie Rusch, vocal soloist from Anthon, will be a
guest soloist at the 10 a.m. worship at First Presbyterian Church
in Odebolt this Sunday, April 26. The worship will also feature a skit
called "Rumors". Visitors are welcome and expected.
OBITUARY
DAVID "MAC" McDONOUGH
David Allen "Mac" McDonough, age 58, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed
away on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at the University of Nebraska Medical
Center in Omaha.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on April 18,
2009 at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt, with interment at the
Odebolt Cemetery. Farber and Otteman was in charge of arrangements.
David was born on June 15, 1950, in Sac City, the son
of Vern and Vera (Rabe) McDonough. He attended Odebolt-Arthur schools,
graduating in 1968. From July 14, 1970 to July 31, 1972, Mac served
his country in the U. S. Army, spending time overseas in Korea.
Mac loved anything and everything associated with cars!
He sold all types: custom cars, hotrods, and current models and loved
to watch races on television and at the race track, which included
dirt track, hard surface, and NASCAR racing. If there was a race he
was there! He also enjoyed collecting tractors, especially
International Harvester Tractors.
He leaves to mourn his significant other and best
friend, Brenda Manmiller of Topeka, KS; his brother Doug McDonough and
wife Nancy of Orion, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and a host
of friends.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents.

The Odebolt-Arthur Pee Wee Association
helps children in kindergarten through fourth grade learn the
fundamentals of baseball and softball. It takes volunteers and
money to keep the fields maintained, to purchase uniforms and
equipment. If you are interested in helping the kids out please
send your donations to Mr. and Mrs. Jason Wulf at their address
listed in The Chronicle.
O-A music students received I ratings for
all seventeen of their entries in the state solo and small
ensemble contest on April 18. Instrumentalists received eleven
I's, eight II's, two III's and one IV rating. Clarissa Krueger,
clarinet soloist, received the Outstanding Performance Award for
her center.

From Mayor Rex:
The City Council is proceeding on passing law
enforcement duties on to the Sac County Sheriffs Department. There are
details yet to be worked out, and the 6 month long trial plan doesn't
go into effect until June 30th. There will be a considerable savings
to the City and we will gain better law enforcement coverage than we
have at present. Our present chief will become a sheriff's deputy and
will reside in Odebolt.
Also the city has become a gold donor to the Odebolt Arthur
Education Foundation. The council felt that it was a way to show the
city's solid support of our kids in O-A.
Brent Huldeen heads
Siouxland Youth for Christ
Brent Huldeen has been appointed executive director of
Siouxland Youth for Christ. A former Odebolt native, Huldeen
attended Morningside College and has worked in Siouxland businesses
for more than 30 years. He has extensive experience in sales,
marketing and management.
Huldeen's new position will be directing the
organization to raise awareness of and support for the ministry by
communicating its mission to the Siouxland community. Youth for
Christ is a non-denominational ministry that works alongside area
churches and partners to serve the needs of young people. The
ministry serves Woodbury, Plymouth and Sioux counties in Iowa and
Dakota County in Nebraska.

2009 Creek Days Praise Service
to feature the Crusaders

The Creek Days Praise Service will be held
on Sunday, June 21, at 10:00 a.m. at the
Odebolt Community Center. This
service, sponsored by the Odebolt-Arthur Ministerial Association, will
feature the music of the Crusaders, from Lincoln, Nebraska. For
45 years, the Crusaders have dedicated their lives to spreading gospel
through Gaither-styled southern gospel music. They have traveled
over two million miles throughout the United States. They have
sold over 100,000 albums and have performed for every major
denomination and in some of the largest nondenominational churches in
the nation.

Volunteer Appreciation Day
In order that all people of
the City of Odebolt may have the opportunity to honor and recognize
the many volunteers and appreciate the needs they meet in the
community, I, R. J. Rex, Mayor of the City of Odebolt, do hereby
proclaim Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 in Odebolt, Iowa as Volunteer

SEVERE WEATHER TEST DRILL
The City of Odebolt will be having a tornado drill on Wednesday,
April 22, 2009. There will be a weather watch at 10:00 a.m. with
the sirens giving the warning at 10:15 a.m. The all-clear signal will
be at 10:30 a.m. If severe weather threatens on April 22nd, the drill
will be rescheduled for Thursday, April 23rd.

On March 24 the Sac County Soil and Water Conservation
District (SWCD) presented an award to Reese and Rose Johnson as Sac
County Isaak Walton League Windbreak winners for 2008. They won the
state windbreak competition and received their state award in November
2008. The Johnsons live south of Odebolt in Wheeler Township.
Madeline Meyer was recognized for volunteer efforts on
behalf of SWCD.
The Odebolt Betterment Committee has begun work on the
Highway Corridors Project, starting with revitalizing the shelter
house at the Triangle Park.
The Sac County Quilt-A-Fair will be held September
26-27, 2009 at the Sac County Fairgrounds.

Two young people will be confirmed during the 10 a.m. worship on
Sunday, April 19 at First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. A reception
in their honor will be held in the church Fellowship Hall from 9:15 -
9:45 a.m. Visitors are welcomed and expected.

Senior Vice President - Chief Ag Loan Officer recently.

Main Street in Odebolt.
Residents could experience some bubbling back through
toilets in these areas.

The Cemetery Committee is requesting the public's help on Work
Day.
Please bring rakes, shovels, pick-ups, etc. to help beautify the

who wrestles for the Odebolt Mat Rats, became the A75 State Champion
on March 28 in Des Moines. This is his third AAU state title.

Pastor Albert Buelow is retiring after 33 years as
minister at Trinity Lutheran church in Odebolt.
Nearly 130 meals were served at the St. Martin Guild
annual Spring Salad Luncheon on March 31. The St. Martin Children's
Choir, under the direction of Kay Bloyer, provided uplifting
entertainment, and following the meal there were 15 tables of card
players.
OBITUARY
ROBERT NEVILLE
Robert J. Neville, 85, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away
on Thursday, April 02, 2009, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in
Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday,
April 6th, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt with Pastor Albert
Buelow officiating. Burial was at the Odebolt Cemetery with military
graveside rites by the American Legion Post No. 313 of Odebolt. Farber
& Otteman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born on June 14, 1923, Odebolt, Iowa, the
son of James and Louise (Dobbert) Neville. He graduated from Odebolt
High School with the class of 1947 after serving his country. He
enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Des Moines, Iowa on June
22, 1943, serving in the Pacific Area at Okinawa and Ryukyu Island,
earning the rank of Corporal (TW). He was honorably discharged on
February 7, 1946, from the Marine Separation Center in Great Lakes,
Illinois.
On April 4, 1953, Robert and Delores Schultz were
united in marriage in Jackson, Minnesota. They made their home in
Odebolt, where Robert started Neville Construction in 1956. He never
officially retired from construction work. Hunting was his favorite
pastime and he enjoyed working in his garden. Robert was a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church and member of the Des Moines American Legion.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and
brother who cherished his family. Survivors include his wife, Delores;
son Steve Neville of Odebolt; daughter Toni Neville and special friend
John McCall of Centerville, MN; two sisters: Nancy Nuetzman and
husband Jim of Wall Lake and Yvonne Streed of Perry; many nieces,
nephews, extended family members and friends.
His parents and seven brothers: Ralph, Russ, Charles,
Dale, Don, Doug and infant James Franklin Neville preceded him in
death.

TAG SHARING NIGHT
The Odebolt-Arthur 3rd through 6th Grade TAG Students would like
to invite everyone to their annual TAG Sharing Night: "Putting
the Pieces Together" Friday, April 17th, 6:00 p.m. in the
Odebolt MPR. Bars, cookies and juice to be served.
High school musicians will perform their Fine
Arts Concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 30th. You will be
treated to the music the band and choir prepared for large group
music contest, as well as some of the highest rated groups from
solo and small ensemble contest to be held on April 18.

Foundation Fling
The Odebolt Arthur Education Foundation (OAEF) will
be hosting their first annual “Foundation Fling” on Sunday evening,
April 26th to be held at the Odebolt Community Center. Proceeds
from this event will be used to fund exceptional projects and
materials to enhance the educational experiences at Odebolt-Arthur.
This year’s “Fling” will include formal dining with
entertainment following. The meal consists of grilled ribeye steak,
potato, salad, vegetable, and dessert.
Entertainment will be provided by Iowa Comedian Ed
Vos through Comedy Productions.

enjoy the settings and theme deco from the previous night’s prom.

Piano students of Barb Votrobeck and Kay Bloyer
performed March 21 in the 22nd annual music festival of the National
Federation of Music Clubs. It was hosted by the local chapter of the
federation in Holstein. Students are required to play two contrasting
pieces by memory and are evaluated on their musicianship.

On March 26 the multi-purpose room at Odebolt-Arthur was
filled with students, parents and teacher making hoagies during
the annual fundraiser. The funds go toward the O-A athletic
activities.

State Wrestling Tournament.

Indoor Meet at Buena Vista University.
Elementary concert at on Monday, April 6
will feature performances by the 5th grade band, the 4th & 5th
grade children's choir, and a mini-musical performed by grades
3-5. The program will begin at 7 p.m. in the gym.
The grand showing of artwork by 3rd, 4th and 5th grade
art students will be in the main hallway before and after the
performance.
O-A has scheduled a Preschool Roundup parents
only meeting on Tuesday, April 7th from 7 to 8 p.m. in the

High school musicians will perform their Fine
Arts Concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 30th. You will be
treated to the music the band and choir prepared for large group
music contest, as well as some of the highest rated groups from
solo and small ensemble contest to be held on April 18.
O-A has received a check for $259.79 from
Target. Shoppers can designate O-A to receive the bonus
percentage from their purchases each time they shop there.
