Dick
and Kay Bloyer have lived in Odebolt since June, 1980. Dick,
originally from Schaller, taught instrumental music at Remsen-Union
after his graduation from Morningside College in 1973. Kay
grew up on a farm south of Remsen, where they were married in 1979.
In March, 1980, Dick was hired as band director at Odebolt-Arthur
and they moved to Odebolt in June of that year.
Dick left the teaching field
in 1985 when he began to sell life insurance for New York Life.
On March 1, 1991, the Bloyers bought a property and casualty
insurance company from Rolan and Donna Blake, and also found out on
that day that they were expecting their 7th child! Needless to
say, both their family and business have grown since then!
Besides their busy work life,
the Bloyers are members of the volunteer ambulance squad, have
served on the Chamber of Commerce, are very active in their church
and of course, at the school. Dick, a saxophone player, plays
for area dances in the big band Tuxedo Junction. He is also on
the board of the Odebolt Community Housing Corp. Kay is the
organist/choir director at St. Martins, she is accompanist for the
school choirs and small contest groups, president of the Music
Boosters, and chair person of the membership committee for the
Athletic Boosters. She also coaches middles school softball
and volleyball.
Both Dick and Kay enjoy
camping, playing cards and attending their children's events.
The Bloyers feel Odebolt is a great place to live, work, and raise
their large family.
Dick and Kay are both
licensed agents but Kay is the boss - just ask her!
