The DownTown Café, formerly Caroll’s Kitchen, located at 214 S. Main St.
in Odebolt, opened for business Sept. 13, 2010 under the management of
Caroleen Loeback of Odebolt. Assisting Loeback are her son and
daughter-in-law, Chris and Lori Wilken of Odebolt.
Café hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through
Friday, closed Saturdays and buffet Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Almost everything is made from scratch. I peel and mash potatoes every
day. We also have homemade pies. Our customers have the choice of
ordering the special or off the menu. They can also call in orders, and
we’ll tell them when they’ll be ready for pick up,” said Loeback.
Prior to taking over management of the café, Loeback worked for Caroll
Kies for 10 years. She said, “I’ve always cooked in volume. I love to
cook and thought this was a perfect opportunity to stay in town and not
have to drive out of town to work.” When Kies retired, Loeback asked the
Odebolt Development Corporation (ODC) if she could take over management
of the café, and they gave her the go ahead.
The café features a full menu (breakfast, sandwiches, side orders and
dinners) in addition to daily lunch and evening specials.
Nightly specials are:
Monday—all you can eat spaghetti
Tuesday— barbecue ribs (three pork ribs served with a baked potato)
Wednesday—Mexican night
Thursday—broasted chicken (your choice of white meat [two breasts and
two wings] or dark meat [two thighs and two legs] and a baked potato
Friday— three pieces of battered fish and a baked potato.
All nightly
specials include one trip through the salad bar.
Loeback said she would also be doing some catering and booking holiday
parties.
The ODC and Odebolt Community Center joined forces to raise funds to do
some much needed repairs and updating prior to reopening the café. The
fundraisers include the sale of a Gary Johnson CD (Johnson graduated
from O-A in 1964 and was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame in 2007) and an Elvis tribute performed by Brad Hedlund at the OCC
Sept. 18.
Persons interested in purchasing the Johnson CD can contact Howard
Hustedt, any OCC member or ODC board members Mark and Tandy Reis, Jason
and Beth Wulf, Bill and Marsha Tysor, Carl Hemer and Denny Sykes.
Funds raised will go toward roof repairs, painting, new ceiling tiles
and other building updates.
Loeback said the painting has been completed and includes a mural of
downtown Odebolt painted by Help Earth Live Peacefully (HELP), a co-ed
venturing group of Boy Scouts of America from Carroll who volunteer
their time to help local communities.
