Since opening its doors on Memorial Day weekend of 2004,
Hattie Grace Boarding House has become a popular bed and breakfast and
has hosted many club and private parties and gatherings. A recent
feature is a once-per-month breakfast, hosted the second Sunday of each
month by reservation.
The history of this Victorian-era house goes back to
1904 when old-time Odebolt carpenter, John McFarland, built it for his
family. It was later sold to the Earl Schwaller family and
Sherry Gritten bought the house in April, 2004. After a
flurry of renovations, the Hattie Grace opened for business in June,
2004 as a bed and breakfast. It became a member of the Iowa Bed
& Breakfast Innkeepers Association in August 2004.
Hattie Grace takes pride in its ability to provide the
ultimate in comfort and hospitality to its guests. The four
bedrooms are beautifully decorated with collectible furnishings,
hardwood floors and handmade quilts. A four-course breakfast is
served in the formal dining room or on the sun porch, depending upon the
preference of the guests. The dining room is available for
luncheons or evening meals by reservation. Free laundry facilities
are also available.
