The Mayor Sez…
Another “Crick days” has come and gone and I want to personally thank all of you volunteers that do such a great job in making our weekend a huge success! You are too numerous to mention by name, but I want you to know your city knows who you are. We Salute!
I guess nobody wants me to mention that in two short weeks it will be the Fourth of July—Woops—it just slipped out, sorry about that!
A 4” downpour last Wednesday created an unbelievable amount of water, especially in the low-lying areas. Our creek basin was full which I hadn’t seen since the creek was widened. Hopefully, not too much hardship had to be endured by the people living nearby. Your City will be addressing the above situation. We will be contacting the County watershed committee soon.
     From the Bolt!
     R. J. Rex, Mayor of Odebolt

The Mayor Sez
Creek Days are upon us! A lot of people have gone to a lot of hard work to put on our Creek Days weekend. I will try and recognize all of you next week. Meantime, we hope everyone has a great time! A program of events is in The Chronicle and on the Odebolt.net web site.
The Odebolt Museum Board wants everyone to know that they will be moving the museum downtown soon! They hope to have a couple rooms ready by Creek Days. They need help and money (donations); not necessarily in that order. Give Carol Auen, Verna Mae Schwaller, or Thelma Schroeder a call and volunteer. They will appreciate it. I would be remiss if I did not say that Odebolt has one of the finest museums in the State of Iowa for a community our size.
Thanks to Lundell Plastics for the open house! Vance and employees, the community appreciates it!

 The Mayor Sez...
I mentioned it last week and due to the magnanimity of the event I am going to mention it again.      Col. Mary Carstensen, the City of Odebolt and the surrounding area want to thank you for taking leave of your busy schedule to be part of the dedication. We are extremely proud of you and your military achievements and, most importantly, you have set a standard to follow for our young people that desire to serve in the military. We Salute!

Items Needed for Museum Flea Market - The Odebolt Museum is currently in the process of moving to a new location at the corner of 2nd Street and Maple.  This new home for the museum will be more accessible for the senior citizens, will have much needed parking, and will have the capabilities for temperature control.  Another plus is the abundance of space.
Plans in the future will be to do some restoration to the upper and lower levels for use at a later date.  But at this time, the goal is to get all the items moved from the old building and get everything resituated.  Anyone who is interested in helping may stop in when the doors are open.
At the last meeting, the committee decided to hold a flea market during Creek Days on Saturday, June 19th.  This project will help raise funds for operating expenses, paint, shelving, etc.  Anyone willing to help by donating items to the museum for our flea market will be greatly appreciated.
The new museum will be open on Tuesday, June 15th, from noon to 7 p.m. for anyone to drop things off for the flea market, or you can call Carol Auen, 668-4860, Verna Mae Schwaller, 668-4377, or Thelma Schroeder, 668-4532 to make other arrangements.
The new ornaments will also be available during Creek Days and will be sold at the new museum site.  They will feature the old hospital that was located on the corner of 3rd and Main Street, the current home of United Bank of Iowa.  Plan to stop in and check out the new home of the museum.    Museum Web Page

Red Cross Bloodmobile is coming to the Odebolt Community Center on Tuesday, June 22.  To make an appointment, call 668-4487.

Ribbon Cutting held at Hattie Grace Boarding House - The Odebolt Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at the Hattie Grace Boarding House located at 317 W. 4th Street in Odebolt on Tuesday, June 1, 2004.  The bed and breakfast, owned by Sherry Gritten of Odebolt, opened May 29, 2004.
One of the oldest homes in Odebolt, the Hattie Grace has been lovingly restored to its early 1900's Victorian beauty, and provides serene accommodations for its guests. A charming front porch invites the weary traveler to relax in comfortable wicker furniture, and enjoy the peace and tranquility of small-town living.
On the first floor, guests can relax in the parlor, watch cable television, browse in the library, or enjoy a romantic candlelight dinner in the spacious dining room.
Four beautifully decorated bedrooms and a shared bath with a luxurious antique clawed tub are located on the second floor. A bath with shower is located on the first floor. Three rooms feature queen-size beds, each with a hand-crafted quilt in "garden trellis", "checkerboard" or "old maid's puzzle" design. The remaining bedroom has twin beds.
A continental breakfast each morning is included in the price of the room, with other meals available by arrangement.  Guests may also invite friends or relatives for breakfast or dinner by prior arrangement.
The Hattie Grace Boarding house is named after two beloved women in Sherry's Gritten's life.
Hattie Alderson Ohlson, her maternal grandmother, was a farm woman who lived near Schaller, Iowa and raised ducks, chickens and geese.  A tiny woman, she always in a hurry, caring for her family, friends, and neighbors.  The coffee was always ready, and her homemade pies earned her a reputation of a fine hostess.
Sherry misses her mother-in-law Grace Gritten and says, "Everyone should be blessed with a mother-in-law like her.  Grace was a very special lady, and a joy to be around.  I never heard her speak an unkind word, or a critical remark."
Rooms available by the night, week, and month.
All are invited to an OPEN HOUSE at Hattie Grace Boarding House during Creek Days, on Sunday, June 20th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

County Elderbridge Informational Meeting to be Held - Everyone is invited to attend the Sac County Informational Gathering that is being held Thursday, June 17, 2004.  It will be at the Odebolt Congregate Meal Site located in the Odebolt Community Center at 115 East 2nd Street in Odebolt.
