The old North Main Bridge and sidewalk

The bridge on North Main Street in
Odebolt has been replaced. Construction was started in August,
2002 by
Graves Construction Company of Melvin, Iowa. The construction cost
of $232,201.41 will be reimbursed 80% from the City Bridge Replacement
Program (Federal Funds). The
project included replacing the existing pony truss bridge with a twin
12' x 8' x 60' reinforced concrete box culvert, replacing 375' of 24'
wide street with a 27' wide street, constructing new sidewalks adjacent
to the box culvert, and installing new storm sewer intakes and outlet
lines. The street over Odebolt Creek is approximately a half
a foot higher with the new construction. Graves
Construction used seven sub-contractors during the construction of
this project including, Rohlin Construction of Carroll, Lundell
Construction of Cherokee and West Central Construction of Arthur.
Sac County Engineers office provided construction staking,
inspection and administration. It took approximately 3 months
to complete all the work.

- The new iron bridge across the Odebolt, north of the
depot, will be completed this week. It is 34 feet long,
with 20 feet of roadway and four feet of sidewalk on each side,
and it cost the county $500. |
