Ukrainian Visits Mrs. Buehler's Classroom

Vitaliy Shevchuk from Zashkiv, Ukraine, shows a Ukrainian calendar
during a visit to Mrs. Buehler's third grade class at Odebolt-Arthur
Elementary on October 18, 2005.

Vitaliy Shevchuk was a guest in the Ben and Marilyn Buehler home in Lake View four years ago as part of an agricultural exchange program. He and five other Ukrainian students from Zashkiv, Ukraine spent nearly 2 months in Lake View and Wall Lake. As Vitaliy got ready to leave the United States four years ago, he made a promise to return to the United States.

This summer he had an opportunity to travel to Tennessee as part of the University of Kiev work/study exchange. He finished his work in early October and then traveled to Lake View for a welcomed reunion with the Buehler family.

Vitaliy spent the afternoon of October 18, 2005 with Mrs. Buehler's third grade class teaching them a few Ukrainian words and telling about life in his country. Vitaliy enjoyed learning to play 4-Square at recess and traveled with the students to music class, as well. Before the students went home, Vitaliy gave each child two pieces of Ukrainian candy. It was a wonderful day, and we all enjoyed Vitaliy's visit at O-A!

Thank you, Vitaliy!
