Public hearing set for Feb. 17 on proposed property tax levy
A public hearing has been set for Feb. 17, 2020 regarding the proposed property tax levy effective July 1, 2020. It is important to understand that this is NOT the total property tax final that you will be paying. This levy rate ONLY includes the general fund and special revenue tax levies. The Deb Service levy will need to be added to this levy amount.
The valuations have gone down due to the Residential Roll Back, and since the benefits like health insurance have decreased for part of the year, and other benefits have remained the same or just slightly higher, there was no need to increase the levy for these things.
The General Fund Levy is restricted to the 8.10 limit. It shows a decrease in these levies from FY20 to FY21 of -1.8% or $11.31 per $1,000 valuation.
This is a new requirement of the government to hold two hearings. One for this partial levy and one complete levy before the budget is finalized (which used to be the only published hearing).
